Our Team

Meet our team

We believe that diversity nourishes a community. The more diverse an environment, the more resilient and healthy its components will be. Our team is certainly no exception and reflects this important ethos.

SONIA TERUEL

Director & Founder

Hello, my name is Sonia and I am the Founder and Director of The RegenLab for Travel.

I have been working in the travel industry for more than 20 years, across different sectors and in various sizes of companies, so I know this community in depth; their dreams, challenges, achievements and mistakes, and what keeps them awake at night.

I have worked on sustainability implementation for many years, but intensively since 2015, with a focus on supporting rural and indigenous communities in Mexico.

My role involved streamlining the company's processes not only between the different departments, but also between the clients and the local hosts, so that there was a harmonious flow between the two. The aim was to create the conditions for all parties to be happy,  including an important dose of communication and awareness. Creating transformative experiences for travellers and being guardians of the ancestral wisdom of communities and Mexico's rich biodiversity was also an important part of the job.

The frustration that the paradigm we were applying was not solving the systemic crisis we have in the world and that sustainability, as it was conceived, was not generating the necessary transformation, led me to investigate other ways of thinking, feeling and doing; in short, another paradigm. After finishing the first published thesis on regenerative tourism in 2018, my mission became to define the role of tourism within the regenerative approach, to implement it together with our allies at a local level, and to be an advocate of regeneration. And so, The RegenLab for Travel was born, with a clear purpose of helping the tourism "industry" transition towards regeneration, through education and facilitation with a clear language that invites reflection and implementation.

In order for The RegenLab for Travel to be an open, dynamic and evolutive learning platform, I count on a team of professional volunteers that you can see on this page, who help me to research and communicate this vision through our platforms.

If you want to see a little bit of my work, take a look at my thesis (in Spanish), interviews, webinars offered, or some blog posts I have written.

I love collaborating with other people because this is how we can create more impact! So, please don’t hesitate to contact me to build a wonderful project together.

ASIA BARONI

Community Manager & Marketing Support

Having witnessed several unsuitable and inappropriate tourism practices during her travels and time living in Venice, Asia has decided to forge a professional career in sustainable tourism. With this in mind, she is certain that having sustainability as a sole approach is not enough to achieve a fundamental paradigm shift. Now is the right time to learn the values of regeneration and apply them both to the tourism sector and to our own lives.

ELLIE BLAKE

Writing & Content Proofreading in English

An English and Drama Loughborough graduate with a passion for writing and advocating for worthy causes, Ellie is passionate about helping organisations to transition beyond sustainability. With previous experience working with small NGOs, she is motivated to put her writing skills to great use and help develop social projects.

An avid traveller and motivated individual, Ellie is keen to learn more about the growing need for regenerative tourism.

CAMILA CARRASCAL

Strategic Partnership Development Manager

Camila is a Colombian professional with a passion for regenerative tourism and sustainability. She can be found on Instagram as @tribute.to.curiosity. With over 8 years of experience in the tourism industry, Camila has worked with ProColombia and served as a regional director at the Association of Travel and Tourism Agencies in Colombia (ANATO). Her constant search for new and innovative ways of doing things led her to the concept of regeneration, which prompted her to pursue a master's degree in tourism with a focus on sustainability in Switzerland. She is currently working on her thesis on how the indigenous worldview of the Kogui community can enrich the principles of regenerative tourism.
